ABOUT

Religion and World Affairs

Trends suggest that religion’s public impact has increased worldwide, with major policy and security implications for the U.S. and the world. Religion exerts considerable influence on democratic transitions, and religious political parties and movements have garnered significant popular support in a variety of democracies. At the same time, religious grievances have been important factors in civil wars, interstate conflicts and international terrorism. Changes in global religious demography, such as the rapid growth of Christianity in the global South and increased Muslim immigration to Western nations, also continue to shape public attitudes and government policies.

American perspectives on these topics are complex. According to a July 2005 poll by the Pew Forum, three-quarters of Americans say that religion has a great deal (40%) or a fair amount (35%) to do with most wars and conflicts in the world, which is similar to the 79% who expressed these views in 2003. Americans’ opinions about recent events in the Middle East are also shaped by religion. A July 2006 poll by the Pew Forum indicated that many more Americans say they sympathize more with Israel (44%) than with Palestinians (9%). Support for Israel is even stronger among those who see religious implications in the state of Israel. A large majority (63%) of those who believe Israel was given by God to the Jewish people say they sympathize more with Israel, as do a majority (60%) of those who see Israel as the fulfillment of biblical prophecy.  – Pew Forum

  • Religion is evil. Wipe the slate clean, start from scratch-nothing, what is left? only god. who is god? why anyone cares is beyond me. yes we have minds, we think, we were created that way. Thats just it. We were created….we live, we die. the end. god is there, before us and after us. All we need to know is god and leave the rest up to him because after all, we are powerless. We were created to love god and enjoy the beautiful word he provided for us out of love—-as we destroy it and long for enough money to be abe to live by the ocean or have enough acres of land to have a room with a view. We can barley eat food that is purely from god……….i could go on, but it is pointless. No one wants to hear truth esp when it is so easy.
PS…I stopped reading or listening to the news 5 years ago……….evil goes on and on, but i do not have to encourage it by giving it my attention.

  • JESUS RETURNS… IN CARTOON FORM
This Easter, it’s religion that got Crucified

In its purest form, Easter is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, but the founders of this holiday never could have imagined what happened this year.

Jesus has been re-born all right, in a cartoon web series which places him on modern-day earth, ill-equipped to deal with today’s society. The hapless savior finds himself overwhelmed by the cruel, selfish world around him, and his attempts to help and do good only lead to more suffering for him and those around him.

Walking the tight-rope of unbridled blasphemy and cunning satire, the series is unabashed in its irreverent critique of modern religion.

The antagonists are two slimy televangelists and their leader, Ratzinger (a shadowy, Dr. Claw-esque version of the current pope.) They want Jesus dead, because his actual return threatens their highly profitable business of using his potential return as a fear-mongering threat.

JFC targets the very ugliest parts of humanity, showing Jesus as a decent guy in the midst of a highly indecent world. With no heralded return, the holy son is left with no choice but to get a job, find some room-mates and try to get by… just like rest of us. He finds himself overwhelmed by the madness of his small apartment, his crazy roomies, neighbors and landlord. One thing’s for sure, this is MUCH worse than last time around.

His room-mates include Brice Jennings, a pretentious wannabe actor with zero IQ and even less talent; Leon, the nihilistic philosophy major who believes himself to be an intellectual giant, towering smugly above the world; Rhonda, a shockingly pathetic crack addicted prostitute; Anxiety Man, a sketched out web designer fueled by coffee and his own delusions of technological grandeur, and a plethora of over the top, yet oh-so-real characters give the world of JFC a cornucopia of comedic situations to play with. Love it or hate it, JFC is to bound stir up some shit.
